Starting to think about Holiday Gifts?  Need some ideas for the bikers and eco-minded folks on your list?

Pedal Bicycle Tours and GO Box are offering a special deal between now and Dec 24.  Simply stop in to Pedal Bike Tours (address and hot link here) and sign up for GO Box to get 20% off any one item in the store.  At Pedal you’ll find locally made bike crafts and gifts for all seasons as well as a great selection of products for bike commuting.

GO Box is a new service providing reusable to-go containers to downtown Portland food carts and their customers — all by bicycle!  When you sign up for GO Box at Pedal Bike Tours, you will receive a nifty GO Box token that you — or your favorite cart-goer — can use at any of the 24 downtown carts offering GO Box.

By using GO Box, you can get your meal in a reusable container, skip the disposable, and help make Portland even greener — all while eating waste-free and guilt-free!  The one-time subscription fee of $8.50 entitles you to a reusable container for an unlimited time — a great deal for those of us who love the food carts and hate the waste!

The Best Streetfood IN THE WORLD- Portland, Oregon

US News and World Report’s online travel magazine has just come out with their rankings of best food cart cities in world, and guess who came out on top?   The list reads like a dream round the world vacation including Vietnam, Turkey, Mexico, Germany, Morocco, Vietnam, and the good old USA.

Of course I wouldn’t be writing this if Portland hadn’t made the list, but the really cool thing is PORTLAND WON.  Naturally we who live here take our food carts for granted ( I just had spicy pork ramen from a Korean cart for $5.95), but this is a wake up call to get out and enjoy them even more!  (Maybe I’ll have a second lunch.)

Naturally our shop is within a block of several of them, with hundreds more within several more blocks.  And yes, several of our tours either go to carts or pass right by them, including Bites By Bike and  Historic Downtown.

Hats off to the city of Portland for lowering barriers to entry for the small business owners who start these carts, and of course the entrepreneurs themselves who bring us such a lively, delicious, varied and creative cart city!
