TOUR DESCRIPTION
To begin this combination bike and hike excursion (bike and helmet are included in the tour price) we'll jump into the Pedal Bike Tours van and drive 45 minutes along the Historic Columbia River Highway, completed in 1915. On the way we'll stop at the most photographed scenic vistas in the Gorge before unloading the bikes at the first of 7 waterfalls including Multnomah Falls, the second tallest continuously flowing waterfall in the country.
This slightly downhill 9-mile ride gives us a sense of what it was like to travel along the first National Scenic Highway in the nation through the gorge before construction of the interstate highway.*
We'll stop every mile or so to see the exhilarating falls, including short hikes right up to where you can feel the cool mist of the water and the pulsing concussion of air from the falls amidst the lush green growth of dozens of species of trees, bushes, ferns, and moss. Overhead we'll point out birds of prey such as osprey and bald eagles.
After exploring the falls complimentary cold drinks and snacks will revive you as our van transports you back to the city to complete your experience in one of the most beautiful places in Oregon.
* Note: This tour does travel on the same road as cars. Traffic can become heavy at times. Your safety is our first priority, however, we feel the opportunity of experiencing the gorge on a bicycle is worth the annoyance of sharing the road with cars. Did we mention Oregon has the most courteous drivers in the country? |
