Join us on this driving and biking adventure as we explore the wild beauty of the Oregon Coast and the 3 Capes Scenic Loop. On this 8 hour tour we’ll drive through the rolling hills and farmlands circling Portland and off into the Oregon Coast Mountain Range. Our drive continues along a beautiful cliff lined river to the green grass and dairies of the town of Tillamook, home to Tillamook Cheese which is sold across the country.
On our way to our ride start, we’ll view Tillamook bay, home to thousands of species of birds, shellfish and fish. Finally we’ll cruise up the steep road to the first Cape and the shortest lighthouse in Oregon, the Cape Meares Lighthouse. This 1890 lighthouse sits on a peninsula 300 feet above the ocean and has dramatic views in all directions. Here you’ll see many species of birds and possibly even grey whales in the distance.
We’ll begin our bike ride on the low traffic roads of the scenic loop through dense forest and past stunning views of the ocean. The beach in the tiny community of Oceanside is our first stop. Here we can explore the long sandy beach and even hike through a tunnel in the mountain to a secluded beach nearby.
The route continues directly above the beach and up a moderate hill to wonderful views of Netarts bay - home to oyster beds, the town of Netarts and Cape Lookout. We’ll cruise the bay, spotting shore birds, harbor seals and other wildlife in the bay. We’ll also see kayaks, fishing boats and clammers. There’s plenty of time to park at water’s edge and snap photos. At the foot of the imposing Cape Lookout we’ll stop for a final exploration of the beach before loading the bikes up and retracing our route back to Portland. |
